Chin

This is Chin Injeti.... A native of Toronto, now a transplant in Vancouver and at times Los Angeles.

In Toronto CHIN was a founding member of the ground-breaking group Bass is Base. A Juno award-winning group that paved the way for many urban artists to follow. He has toured and shared the stage with the likes of James Brown, The Fugees, The Roots, A Tribe Called Quest, Nelly Furtado and the Marley Family. He has been the recipient of the songwriter of the year SOCAN AWARD and a MuchMusic Video Award.
Over the years there is no doubt that CHIN has established himself as a mainstay in Canada as an artist, songwriter and producer.

Fast forward to the present. CHIN has swapped his surroundings from the concrete jungle of Toronto to the lush rainforest setting of Vancouver. With his production partner...fellow westcoaster and L.A.
based producer DJ Khalil...he has been producing and working with everyone from Dr. Dre, Nas, Talib Kweli, Busta Rhymes, and the Clipse...to Esthero, Kinnie Starr, Hot Hot Heat, Bedouin Soundclash and Zaki Ibrahim.

In December 2009 the CLIPSE released their newest record 'Til The Casket Drops" which featured two tracks, "Kinda Like A Big Deal" [featuring Kanye West] and "There Was A Murder"...both from the CHIN/Khalil production team.

A number of weeks earlier CHIN had received credits on a track called "Could've Been You" [featuring R Kelly] from 50 CENTS' new record as well as credits on a song called "Fear" from fellow Canadian sensation DRAKE that would appear on his breakthrough EP!

His partnership with DJ Khalil doesn't stop at producing however. The two have formed a group called The New Royales...a genre bending band that has created sounds from the past, the present and the FUTURE! Just ask Dr.Dre, Busta Rhymes, Talib Kweli, Bishop Lamont, David Banner and Jay Electronica who are all fans and have collaborations with The New Royales!

As a producer, mentor and collaborator CHIN continues to take strides forward. As a singer-songwriter he is creating a new beginning for himself. Within his heavy production and work schedule CHIN has found time to complete a solo album called D'tach in a genre he calls "urban folk."

Sonically, D'tach is quite a departure from the music that CHIN's name is currently attached to. However the one constant that remains is a focus on crafting quality music and songs. With a stripped down sound on this album CHIN explains "I detached from everything, separated myself, cut off the strings"

He was detached from the tools of his trade.

"In my studio is a collection of basses, which is my first instrument. Also I have some vintage keyboards and guitars plus a few eclectic pieces like the harmonium and tablas. But for this record I stepped away from it all and armed myself with some coffee, a vivid memory, a pad, a pen and a used guitar I got for fifty bucks."

He was separated from his anxieties.

"Who I am is a creative entity...someone who is not afraid to expose himself any longer.I will expose my weaknesses, my strengths, my short-comings, my spirituality (or lack of ), my disability, my ability,
my triumphs, my defeats, my losses, my gains, my tears, my joys, my darkness, my light, my prayers, my curses, my dreams and my nightmares."

Cutting loose from the fear of self.

"Essentially I've detached myself to bring forth the truth. For the first time ever I have found the courage to put my life on display. Who I was, who I am, who I'm going to be...where I've been, where I'm
going, all that I know, and all that I don't."

D'tach was released on April 6, 2010.
